This Year‘s Last Writing Workshop for Social Workers

I just gave this year‘s last writing workshop for social workers at the penitentiary today.
After the workshop, I caught the bus with one of the workshop participants. He works as a cook and educator in the penitentiary’s kitchen. I remembered him because of his affinity for precise language.
On the bus, he told me more about himself. He’s been working at the penitentiary for two years, and it’s been one of the most challenging jobs he’s ever had. He’s tall and assertive, and he says that it’s an advantage to be physically strong when you work with young convicts. “But you know, even though I do understand why it’s important to write factual reports, it’s difficult to keep the language neutral when you’re asked to describe the behavior of a man in whose eyes you see that he’d be ready to kill you.“
I just nodded in silence. There was nothing more to add.
Pictured is the view of Zurich from the bus. I already look forward to coming back for another series of workshops next year!
