Application Documents for a Career Change

This client was working in the insurance industry and determined to change jobs. The job he had at the time was the reason why he had moved to Switzerland, but he knew that the job didn’t allow him to unfold his potential. He sent us his CV to inquire if we could present his experience in a way that would ensure potential employers perceived it as valuable for him to find a more appropriate position. Our task was thus to sharpen his personal and professional profiles with a new CV, a motivation letter, and a revision of his LinkedIn account. He had already taken a new, professional picture.

In general, foreign-born residents in Switzerland may be at a disadvantage when applying for jobs because of the language, as Swiss German, in addition to Standard German, is decisive in most client-facing positions. At the same time, this client also brought a lot to the table, because he worked in an industry in which competencies are measured by financial results, and his results were excellent. However, given his unusual career path, his achievements weren’t evident at first sight.

On the basis of an interview with the client, we created a new, industry-appropriate CV and a motivation letter. This included not only a list of all the positions he had held, but above all telling the outstanding story behind this person by highlighting his professional achievements and commitment. We then revised his existing LinkedIn profile in German accordingly, completed it with a concise abstract, and created an English translation. In this case, the challenge was to tell the story of his professional career, which had happened in a different cultural context, for the viewpoint of a Swiss employer. To achieve this, we asked for the specific tasks and results he had achieved in each position and how he would apply his experience to the Swiss market. Given our client’s competence, we quickly managed to create a new personal brand of solid professionalism and work ethics.
